โš ๏ธ Safety Checkpoints & Warnings

๐Ÿ“‹ Step-by-Step Guide (5 Steps)

1

Sketch the Droplet Contour and Set Light Direction

Use an HB pencil with light pressure to draw a slightly asymmetrical oval or teardrop shape. Decide on an imaginary light source direction, such as the top-left corner. Keep the pencil line faint so it disappears into future shading.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข A faint, smooth oval outline with no heavy indents in the paper.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Pressing too hard, creating a permanent groove in the paper.
  • โ€ข Drawing a perfectly rigid, geometric circle rather than an organic fluid drop.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Hold the pencil loosely between your fingers to prevent hand cramping.
2

Shade the Top Interior Gradient

Water refracts light, making the side facing the light source dark and the opposite side bright. Using the HB pencil, shade a dark crescent along the top-inside edge facing your light source. Feather the tone downwards into a soft medium-grey gradient toward the center, leaving the bottom-inside area pure white paper.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข A dark upper rim inside the drop tapering into a smooth grey midtone toward the center.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Filling the entire interior with uniform grey.
  • โ€ข Shading the bottom inside dark instead of the top.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Do not blow eraser dust toward your face; brush it off gently with a soft brush.
3

Blend the Interior Gradient

Use the tip of a paper blending stump in small circular motions to soften the interior graphite. Blend smoothly from the dark top rim into the center, feathering the graphite until it fades to nothing before reaching the bright lower inner curve. Ensure the lower internal edge stays crisp and luminous.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข A seamless graphite gradient from top to bottom with zero visible pencil stroke lines.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Dragging dirty graphite with the stump into the white bottom area.
  • โ€ข Rubbing aggressively, causing the paper fibers to tear or pill.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Work on a flat, stable desk to maintain controlled, gentle blending pressure.
4

Draw and Blend the External Cast Shadow

Switch to a 4B pencil and draw a slim crescent shadow on the outside of the droplet on the side opposite the light source. Make the shadow darkest right where it touches the droplet's outer edge (the contact point). Blend the outer edge of this cast shadow outward with the stump so it softly diffuses into the background.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข A rich, dark crescent shadow hugging the outside bottom edge, fading softly outward.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Leaving a harsh, sharp outline around the outside of the cast shadow.
  • โ€ข Placing the shadow on the same side as the light source.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Avoid resting your wrist directly on the soft 4B graphite to prevent heavy smearing.
5

Add the Crisp White Highlights

Use a white gel pen to place a solid, bright white dot or tiny curved line inside the dark upper section, directly facing the light source. Add a secondary, smaller, fainter white speckle near the glowing bottom-opposite edge to mimic internal reflection. Allow the ink to dry completely without touching it.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Camera AI Checkpoint
  • โ€ข An intense, sharp white reflection dot contrasting vividly against the dark top shading.
  • โ€ข The droplet immediately 'pops' off the page with a glassy, 3D appearance.
๐Ÿ›‘ Watch Out For
  • โ€ข Making the white dot too large, obscuring the upper shadow gradient.
  • โ€ข Smearing wet gel pen ink with your fingers.
โš ๏ธ Safety Note: Keep ink markers capped when not in use to avoid accidental stains on clothes or workspace.
