📋 Step-by-Step Guide (6 Steps)
Clean Pigment from Ferrule
Wet the brush in lukewarm water and gently rub the bristles across the solid brush soap until a rich lather forms. Swirl the brush on a silicone pad or your palm, working lather into the ferrule base to dislodge dried acrylic pigment. Avoid pushing the bristles directly downward into the soap.
- • Thick white lather covers the bristles without dried paint flakes visible at the ferrule base.
- • Mashing the brush tip straight down like a plunger, splaying bristles permanently.
Rinse Away Soap and Sludge
Swish the brush thoroughly in a cup of cool, clean water or under a gentle tap. Continue rinsing until all foam and pigment residue are flushed out. Squeeze the bristles gently between two fingers to confirm the water runs clear.

Prepare Hot Water Bath
Boil water in a kettle and pour it into a ceramic mug, filling it about halfway. Let it sit for 30 to 60 seconds so the temperature rests just below boiling (around 85°C–90°C / 185°F–195°F). Place the mug securely on your work mat.
- • Steaming water resting stably in the mug with vigorous boiling bubbles subsided.
- • Using violently boiling water directly on the heat source.
Dip Bristles for Thermal Reset
Submerge ONLY the bristle portion into the hot water for exactly 2 to 3 seconds. Do not allow the tips to touch the bottom or sides of the mug, and keep the metal ferrule completely above the waterline. Remove the brush immediately after the brief dip.
- • Bristles wet and submerged halfway between tip and ferrule, suspended freely in hot water.
- • Touching the bristle tips against the bottom of the mug, bending them under heat.
Roll and Draw into a Needle Point
Immediately draw the hot bristles across a damp paper towel or the back of your hand while twisting the handle between your thumb and index finger. Pull strictly away from the ferrule toward the tip in long, smooth strokes until the hooked ends straighten into a razor-sharp point. Repeat the hot dip and roll once more if a slight hook remains.
- • Bristles converge into a single, uniform needle-sharp point with zero curved or stray hairs at the apex.

Apply Setting Soap and Dry Horizontally
Pick up a tiny amount of brush soap or conditioner on the damp bristles and shape the point one final time. Lay the brush completely flat on a paper towel, or rest the handle with the tip hanging over a table edge so nothing contacts the bristles. Leave to dry fully for at least 2 hours.
